February 2017: Acts of Kindness featuring Neil Young
Every month a very generous check arrives in an envelope from a man who didn’t even go to school at Villanova. He gives to students he doesn't know and to a school he never attended. He is not a rich man in fact he lives off of his U.S Postal Service pension. He lives in the area of one of our Board of Directors, John Maguire, so I asked him if he knew this gentleman. John told me, “I first met Neil in about 1956 while caddying at Old York Road Country Club. He was a good golfer and worked his entire life for the postal service. He’s retired now living in Jenkintown. He keeps busy as health allows with nieces and nephews birthdays and sports activities.” When I asked John how he could be so generous as a retiree, he told me that “Neil gives not from surplus, but from what he could use to live. He is an example of the biblical story of the poor widow who gave two small coins compared to the wealthy man who put in more BUT from his excess.” God Bless You Neil. You have such a big heart we wanted you to be recognized during the month of February in honor of Valentine’s Day!
