April 2017: Student Spotlight featuring Caitlin McGorry
On Villanova's Irish Dance Team
The Villanova Irish Dance Team is a student run and organized club team consisting of about 25 members. Throughout the year, the Irish Dance Team performs at various on campus events, such as basketball halftime shows, Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies, Villanova’s 175th Anniversary, as well as multiple off campus events like James Joyce readings and Community Irish Cultural Society events. They also host two events during the year. On October 1st, 2016, the Villanova Irish Dance Team hosted their annual Intercollegiate Irish Dance Competition. Numerous teams from all over the country came to compete in various dances, and on March 15th, 2017, they will hosted their annual St. Patrick’s Day Showcase where they performed both traditional dances and brand new choreography to modern hits. At this year’s competition, Villanova’s team received first place in the Fun Number competition, a competition with modern music and choreography, for their High School Musical inspired dance. They will be showcasing this winning number this year at their showcase to see this and many more fun and exciting dances!
Blue White Scholarship 2016 recipient, Caitlin McGorry, is a very active member of the Villanova Irish Dance Team. This team has been crucial in Caitlin’s Villanova Experience. She is eternally grateful for both the opportunity to be a part of this incredible team and for all of the people, including the Blue White Scholarship Foundation, who support her on her path at Villanova.
