September 2016: Acts of Kindness featuring Bunny Sigler

Bunny performed the National Anthem and God Bless America for the Benjamin Franklin Pledge Ceremony. What an incredible voice! Bunny was born in Philadelphia and is an R&B music writer, producer, and performer. As a four-time Grammy award winning and nominated, international multi-platinum artist, Bunny is a legend. When he was a young teenager in the 1950s, he was involved in local groups with his brothers. They got a number of gigs, even though they were all still school children. Some nights when the rest of the group failed to turn up, Bunny would complete the set alone. He was fast becoming an established solo act around the local supper club circuit. His performances quickly earned a strong reputation for the passion he delivered and he was soon dubbed “Mr. Emotion”. Bunny was the force behind some of the greatest hits from the 1960s and 1970s. Instant Funk’s “I Got My Mind Made Up”, Patti Labelle’s “Somebody Loves You Baby”, The Whispers’ “Bingo”, Jackie Moore’s “Sweet Charlie Babe”, and The O’Jays “Sunshine” all came from the pen of Bunny Sigler. During his career he has amassed more than 35 million units as a producer artist and songwriter. Few songwriters have influenced a genre like Bunny Sigler. Detroit had “Motown”, but Bunny was instrumental in creating the “Philly Sound” in the early 1970s. He did extensive work with the team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, and has worked with most of the artists associated with the Philadelphia stable including The O'Jays, Jackie Moore, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Barbara Mason, Billy Paul, Lou Rawls, Patti LaBelle and Stephanie Mills. With the proliferation of the rap and hip-hop genres, Bunny’s songwriting has been utilized by the world’s top artists including The Roots, Outkast, Mary J. Blige, The Notorious B.I.G., and Nelly, whose 2002 smash hit “Dilemma,” was co-written by Bunny and spent a number of weeks at number 1 on the charts throughout the world. He also co-wrote “The Ruler's Back”, the opening song on the widely respected and critically acclaimed album The Blueprint by Jay-Z. Still an avid writer, producer, and performer, Bunny’s record company Bun Z Music and Records, LLC has released 3 CD’s and numerous singles. We can’t thank Bunny enough for making the Benjamin Franklin Pledge to “Pay It Forward” just a little bit more special!
